Letters to the Editor – Saturday 13th October 2018

While we are fixated either on the latest ‘variety’ of Brexit, and while our MSM are fixated on the latest Royal wedding, our correspondent Septimus Octavius reminds us that there are other ‘events’ in the pipeline and warns us of the “Ides of October”:

Sir,

The fireworks display begins on Monday! Beware the Ides of October!

This coming Monday, 15 October 2018, is the day on which the Italian Government formally adopts its budget, which in effect is a message to the EU that Italy is completely destroying the rules of euro membership, at least as far as Italy is concerned.

In theory it is of course possible that the EU will not react at all, but this would certainly be a first; they have not previously shown a willingness to be snubbed in this way, as the Greeks can well confirm.

Furthermore, the Italian Government are actually hoping for a sturdy challenge from Brussels, as that is all they need to proceed to what they really want to do: default on their 2.14 trillion euro debt, decouple from the euro, and devalue their currency.

That default would be the biggest in world history, four times bigger than Lehman, and would send massive financial shock waves over the entire planet.

I truly hope I am wrong about this.

Respectfully, Septimus Octavius

Our reader Daniel Bamford sent in the following letter which he has also submitted to “Standpoint Magazine” which is of interest to all of us:

Sir,

Thank you for publishing David Abulafia’s feature-length article on Jeremy Corbyn’s anti-Semitic sympathies as your main cover story for October 2018 (see here). I agree that the wilful and defiant complicity of the Leader of the Opposition with anti-Semitic terrorism and agitation is a national disgrace, which must be countered by sustained condemnation throughout civil society with no regard for political partisanship.

One important area where I disagree with Prof. Abulafia is his cursory single paragraph on Muslim anti-Semitism. Islamic law (sharia) has permitted far worse treatment of supposedly ‘protected’ (dhimmi) Jews and Christians than he implies, while popular misconceptions of Islamic Spain have been dealt with most recently by Dario Fernández-Morera in ‘The Myth of the Andalusian Paradise’ (ISI Books, 2016).

Most seriously, Prof. Abulafia claims that ‘no one is suggesting the abuse is a speciality of the Muslim community…’ I would like to take this opportunity to make that suggestion and I am far from being the first to do so, because a genocidal hatred of Jews lies at the core of Islam in the personal example set by its founding prophet, who destroyed the Jewish communities of the Hijaz through expulsion, slaughter, rape and enslavement.

Aside from the various denunciations and accusations in the Koran, Muslims have been left in no doubt about their ultimate duty to kill all Jews by an additional ‘hadith’ (saying of Mohammed). This ‘hadith’ is preserved and corroborated by eight separate traditions in the authoritative collections of Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim and Malik Muwatta, which have the status of holy scripture equal to the Koran. This same ‘hadith’ is quoted by some of Jeremy Corbyn’s “friends” in the 1988 Hamas Charter.

There is no such scriptural imperative behind what remains of Christian anti-Semitism, despite the flippant and dismissive assumptions exhibited by Liberal Democrat MP Layla Moran in her TV clash with UKIP Leader Gerard Batten MEP on BBC2’s ‘Daily Politics’ (1st May 2018). Playing identity politics with her Palestinian Arab Christian ancestors did not conceal Layla Moran’s wilful ignorance regarding the scriptures and histories of both Christianity and Islam.

It is therefore unfortunate that you chose Layla Moran as an example for British Muslims to follow in denouncing Jeremy Corbyn. No sincere denunciations will come until British Muslims are willing to repeat Mehdi Hasan’s startling admission that Muslim anti-Semitism is ‘routine and commonplace’ and then follow this by clearly disowning the bloodthirsty anti-Semitism that lies at the heart of their religion. As with many other abhorrent aspects of Islam, this will require a drastic reappraisal of the historical record and the authority of their scriptures. A few brave reformers have set themselves this unenviable task and we cannot afford to pretend that the problem does not go this deep.

Respectfully, Daniel Bamford

Finally, Ernie Warrender, UKIP Spokesman for Small Businesses, sent in the following observation:

Sir,

“Bollocks to Brexit’”

I thought that would get your attention!

Charlie Mullins, Multi Millionaire, Tory donor, recipient of an OBE, presumably for services to the U bend and owner of Pimlico Plumbers has invested a lot of money in posting these offensive billboards around London presumably with Mayor Khan’s tacit approval. This is backfiring badly as people find this in poor taste, to say the least. Small children will see these posters on billboards and assume it is OK to repeat. Mr Mullins may find himself caught up in a Gerald Rayner ‘My products are crap’ moment.

Allied to the disgraceful behaviour in Bath where a peaceful and well received Ukip Brexit rally was disrupted by revolting protest resulting in a youth being forced by social media to turn himself in for potential ‘Hate Crime’ by spraying ‘Racist Scum’ on UKIP posters. Judging by the spelling he seems quite representative of the Remainiac genre.

All of this reinforces my point in my Conference speech NEVER DOUBT that you made the right decision to stand up to the insidious EI. These people are slowly revealing their true colours and the General Public are seeing through them. In the South West alone 15,000 ‘No to EU’ hessian shopping bags have been given out!

Respectfully, Ernie Warrender
