It’s 9.30am on day three – or day six, if you count December’s false start – in the Big Brother house and almost all the contestants are still in bed. Parliament may have broken with tradition to sit on a Friday to debate the EU withdrawal bill but MPs weren’t going to let that spoil their weekend. Brexit, what Brexit? The Commons chamber was more like an echo chamber. You get a bigger crowd for an adjournment debate on the illegal trade of seahorses.

Here is Channel 4 News’ Michael Crick on what the Unite general secretary Len McCluskey is saying about his telephone call with Theresa May about Brexit yesterday.

Len McCluskey tells it was the first time he had ever spoken to Theresa May (he never ever had a conversation with Cameron). "There was nothing acrimonious or disrespectful" about it, he says. He explained Unite & Labour view there should be a general election.

On a visit to Romania, which currently has the presidency of the EU, Jean-Claude Juncker, the president of the European commission, said the EU would be offering the UK “clarifications” relating to the Brexit deal, but not a renegotiation. He said:

We are checking with Downing Street what the clarifications could amount to. They should not be confused with a renegotiation.

I don’t like the prospect of a no-deal. It would be a catastrophe.
